Prayagraj: Going in all festive mood to the Ardh Kumbh mela? Well, there might be a hiccup for you waiting. Staying in the city could you cost upto Rs 8000 per night for what would otherwise be Rs 2000.

According to the Kumbh goers, the single room could during the festival cost even upto Rs 15,000. When seeing for prices in advance, some hotels show pricing to be upto Rs 8000 in the first weeks of the year, but when looks for rates, further in the month, they shoot up to up to as much as 16,000. Only after the first week of March does the rate show any decline.

Ardh Kumbh is the most auspicious time in the Hindu calendar in six years is around the corner and will take place between January 15 and March 4 2019. A dip in the holy waters at the confluence of Yamuna, Ganga and the mythical river of Saraswati is told to free one from their sins and the cycles of rebirth. According to mythology, in a war between gods and demons, a few drops of the nectar of immortality had fallen upon four places, namely, Prayagraj, Haridwar, Nashik and Ujjain, making them holy.
