20 month toddler from Delhi saves 5 lives, becomes youngest organ donor

A 20-year-old toddler from Delhi’s Rohini named Dhanishtha becomes the youngest cadaver donor, as her multiple organs which gave life to 5 new patients. Her heart, liver, kidney, and corneas were retrieved at Sri Ganga Ram Hospital and were sued to hive life to 5 patients.

Sadly, Dhanishtha had fallen from the first-floor balcony of her home while playing in the evening of January 8, 2021, and became unconscious.

She was rushed to the Sri Ganga Ram Hospital, but could not have been saved. The child was declared brain dead on January 11, and all her other organs which were in good condition were recovered and used to give 5 other patients the lives they could deserve.  Insipite of the loss of their beloved child, Dhanishtha’s parents Ashish Kumar and Babita decided to donate their child’s organs.

As per the father- Ashish Kumar, he said that during our stay in the hospital, we met many patients who were in need of organs, and we thought that even though our daughter is no more, she can give life to others and with them be alive, so we decided to donate her organs.

India has one of the lowest rates of organ donation, and among millions just die because of not finding an appropriate organ, the noble act of Dhanishtha’s parents should be filled by all, and they should learn from her.
