The Supreme Court on Tuesday, April 23 ordered the Gujarat government to pay a compensation of Rs 50 lakh to Bilkis Bano along with a government job and as per laws, a news agency reported.
Earlier the Gujarat state government had offered an interim relief of Rs 5 lakh.
Bilkis Bano’s family was attacked by a mob at Randhikpur, a village near Ahmedabad, during the post-Godhra riots on 3 March 2002. Bano, who was pregnant at the time, was gang-raped. Only she and her two relatives, Saddam and Husain, survived the attack.
A special court in January 2008 had convicted 11 men and sentenced them life imprisonment on charges of rape and murder. The court acquitting seven persons including cops and doctors.
