In a terrible incident, nearly 30 children died at Gorakhpur’s BRD Hospital within 48 hours. The incident happened in a case of negligence on part of the hospital to ensure smooth supply of oxygen for the patients. As per the sources, the deaths were caused by the agency responsible for the supply of oxygen stopped supply. This led to the death of 30 children and seven deaths were reported on Friday evening.

However, the Uttar Pradesh government has denied that the deaths were caused by a shortage of oxygen. It also said that the district administration was present at the hospital and are monitoring the situation.

Reportedly, the hospital has to pay about Rs 66 lakh to the company that supplies oxygen. Repeated reminders were sent to the authorities at the government hospital and medical college in writing regarding the same. Besides, the technician had informed authorities of the shortage in oxygen levels, but nothing really happened.

Reportedly, supply was disrupted from Thursday resulting in the death of 20 children. The Baba Raghav Das Medical College and Hospital is a specialty hospital visited by hundreds. Gorakhpur has seen at least 114 deaths owing to Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES) this year.
