The Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE) has said that unemployment has dropped sharply in Madhya Pradesh in the last nine months, giving a major boost to the Kamal Nath government.

CMIE is a Mumbai based business Information Company; it has in its latest report that unemployment which was at its peak of 7% in December 2018 dropped to 4.2% by the end of September 2019. The report further stated that on the contrary, unemployment climbed 8.1 % by October in the country.

On Sunday, the Chief Minister’s office said that in less than one year, the government has succeeded in reducing unemployment by 40% in Madhya Pradesh. To which BJP questioned the data and said that if there’s any success, it’s due to the center’s plan.

Gushing the CMIE report, the CM’s office tweeted, “Employment has been increasing in Madhya Pradesh. Kamal Nath government has trounced unemployment. In a short stint of 10 months, the government has succeeded in reducing the unemployment rate by 40%. In 2018, joblessness was at 7%, which is now declined to 4.2%. This is the result of the able leadership of Kamal Nath.”

Here’s the post:

The CMIE report said that from January 2019 to August 2019, a “major change” was witnessed in rural and urban employment generation. “Unemployment rate went up from 4.76% in January to 6.47% in February 2019, but declined in August to 5.50%,” it said.

Unconvinced by the numbers, BJP asked the government to come out with data on a number of industries set up in Madhya Pradesh in the last 10 months, names of youths given jobs, unemployment stipend data and government vacancies filled during the same period.
