Kolkata, March 15 (IANS) As many as 926 complaints related to violation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) have so far been registered with the Election Commission (EC) in West Bengal, an official said on Friday.

“The complaint redressal system is working well in various districts. The increasing figure indicates that the citizens are giving due importance to this mechanism and it is making our work easy,” state’s Additional Chief Electoral Officer (ACEO) Sanjay Basu told reporters.

Of the 510 complaints registered on the cVigil app till date, 248 have been resolved, he said.

Basu said 184 complaints have been received on the ECI’s National Grievance Services (NGS) Portal, and 146 of those have been addressed.

The citizens’ portal of NGS recorded 232 complaints, out of which 199 have been addressed, Basu said.

He added that most complaints are related to defacement and “no serious complaints of intimidation have been received”.

On media monitoring for the general and assembly elections, Basu said, “The Electronic Media Monitoring Centre (EMMC) under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting will monitor all English, Hindi and regional channels on the day of polling and a day before. It will furnish a report to the ECI every two hours.”

Deputy CEO Amit Jyoti Bhattacharya explained that there is a Media Certification and Monitoring Committee (MCMC) at the district level and an ACEO’s committee at the state level.

“This year one social media expert has been included in these committees to monitor all complaints related to the social media,” he added.
