A 24-year-old man killed for stopping marriage of minor girl in Tamil Nadu

The police were tipped that a minor girl who has not attained the age of 18 is getting married and thus the police stopped the marriage.

Madurai: A 24-year-old man was killed by a man and his relatives on the suspicion that he informed the police about his marriage with a minor a week ago. The 24-year-old man was from Rajaman Nagar.

The police were tipped that a minor girl who has not attained the age of 18 is getting married and thus the police stopped the marriage.

The police reported that the accused bridegroom, identified as K Vijayakumar, and his relatives Ranjith, Karuppuraja, Manikandand, and others planned the murder on the late hours of Monday night.

The victim, N Ramamoorthy was a married man and has recently married and settled in Kannan Colony on Chinthamani Road. The parents and siblings of the victim were residing nearby in the locality at Rajaman Nagar.

According to police, Ramamoorthy visited his parents on Monday night and his father came to drop him back home on his bike when Vijayakumar and his relatives intercepted the vehicle. The gang was armed with sharp weapons, chased him down and attacked him. After hearing the screams his wife Jothi rushed to the spot.

The police came right after and shifted the body to the government Rajaji hospital for postmortem.
