Amid Bharatiya Janata Party’s attempt to distance themselves from Nathuram Godse supporters, another party MLA has followed MP Pragya Thakur’s step as he praised of Mahtama Gandhi’s assassin.
“Godse was not a terrorist. Those who are involved in anti-national activities are terrorists. ,” Ballia MLA Surendra Singh said. “Godse committed a mistake. He should have not killed patriot Gandhi ji,” he added, using the Hindi word “bhool” for “mistake”.
When asked whether Godse was a patriot, the MLA did not reply.
On Wednesday, Pragya Thakur stirred controversy with an interjection during Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) leader A Raja’s reference to Godse in Parliament. Albeit her remarks were later expunged from the record, yet it gave enough ammo in the hands of the opposition parties to create a furore.
Following her remarks, the party has barred Thakur from attending its parliamentary party meeting in the current Parliament session and removed her from the consultative committee on defence.
