Air India Announces Salary Hikes and Bonuses: Earlier this week, Air India announced annual salary increases for its staff and also introduced an annual target performance bonus for pilots. This is the first appraisal process since Tata Group took control of the loss-making airline a little over two years ago.

Employees of Air India will receive salary increases from April 1, 2024, as well as performance bonuses for FY 2023-24, based on company and individual performance.

Pilots receive monthly raises ranging from Rs 5,000 to Rs 15,000, depending on their experience and position.

According to sources cited by news agency PTI, pilots can earn up to Rs 1.80 lakh in target performance bonuses.

Employees who joined before December 31, 2023, including ground staff, cabin crew, and pilots, will receive annual appraisals.

Based on the new Performance Management System, appraisals are conducted

Besides an increase in fixed pay for FY 2023-24, the airline has introduced a component of an annual target performance bonus for its pilots based on company and individual performance.

First officers and captains will receive an increase of Rs 5,000 each with the salary revision.

According to sources, commanders and senior commanders will receive monthly raises of Rs 11,000 and Rs 15,000, respectively.

Junior first officers will not receive a raise in their monthly fixed pay.

Bonuses for Air India employees

Performance bonuses will be paid based on the company’s and an individual’s performance.

According to sources, a junior first officer will receive an annual bonus of Rs 42,000 and a first officer and commander will receive Rs 60,000, depending on their performance.

Commanders will receive a bonus of Rs 1.32 lakh, while senior commanders will receive a bonus of Rs 1.80 lakh.

It is the first appraisal of Air India staff since the Tata Group took over the company in January 2022.

According to sources, only compensation and contract restructuring were done last year for legacy employees.

There are around 18,000 employees at Air India.

They said that Air India, which is in the process of revamping itself under a five-year transformation plan, is offering competitive salary increments to attract and retain talent as part of its efforts to have a performance-driven and meritocratic culture among its employees.

CHRO Kumar said the airline laid strong foundations for growth and transformation in the last financial year while announcing the appraisals.

The airline introduced the contemporary annual performance appraisal process Rise as part of its Vihaan.AI journey.

Additionally, he said, the company has implemented a simplified, market-competitive, and productivity-oriented compensation structure for employees.

Vihaan.AI, Air India’s five-year transformation plan, was announced in late 2022.

There are four airlines in the Air India group – Air India, Air India Express, AIX Connect (formerly AirAsia India) and Vistara. Air India Express will merge AIX Connect with itself, and Vistara will merge with Air India.
