With the increase in environmental pollution, it has become important to control indoor pollution by planting air-purifying plants. This is a list of oxygen/air purification equipment that can be grown indoors.

These plants are easy to care for and can be found in a nursery or garden nearby.

Money Plant

Money plant is known for its ability to remove toxins and other chemicals from the air, more specifically benzene, formaldehyde, xylene and toluene. You can buy the plant from a nearby nursery, or you can grow it by cutting the stem of another plant.

The money plant has a high purification rate, but if the leaves are ingested, it is toxic to cats, dogs and children.

Care method- The Money plant grows well under indirect light and needs to be watered every week. Three 18-inch plants are advised to be grown for a person.

Best place to keep- You can keep your Money plant anywhere away from direct sunlight and reach of small children or pets.

Snake Plant

The Snake plant is also called mother-in-law’s tongue. Snake plants are unique in their ability to produce oxygen at night and purify the air by removing benzene, formaldehyde, trichloroethylene, xylene and toluene makes it unique. It is considered highly efficient in producing oxygen, thus purifying indoor air.

Care method- Snake plant grows well under indirect or window light. It has to be watered weekly for good growth. To be able to produce oxygen for one person, six to eight waist level plants are required. In a closed room, these plants can produce enough oxygen to breathe easily.

Best place to keep- It is also an ornamental plant; therefore it can be kept in the bedroom or any other room.

Areca Palm

The Areca Palm also absorbs carbon dioxide and produce oxygen to detoxify the surroundings. Areca Palm also purifies the environment where it is placed by removing dangerous chemicals such as formaldehyde, xylene and toluene.

Care method- The Areca Palm grows well in filtered light or a well-lit room. You need to water it often depending upon its requirement. It is recommended to grow four shoulder-high plants for a single person.

Best place to keep- It can be kept in your living room. It can be used to beautify and brighten interiors of your home.

Peace Lily

The Peace lily is a gorgeous plant with its pretty white blooms which works great as an air purifier. It can improve indoor air quality to an extent of 60 per cent. It is also known to absorb harmful vapours from alcohol and acetone.

If you keep peace lily in the bathroom, it can also help in keeping the tiles free of mildew. It is traditionally symbolized as a plant of purity, harmony and innocence, thus it will make a great place anywhere in your home.

Care method- Peace lilies grow well in partial shade or indirect light like the above plants. If kept under direct sunlight, it will lead to the leaves turning yellow and then brown.

Peace lily should be watered once in three to four days. You can identify by looking at the leaves of your peace lily if they require water as the leaves start drooping.

Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera can be easily found at nearby nursery or around your house itself. It has air-purifying characteristics as well as is used for skin, hair, etc. Aloe Vera has thousands of uses from medicinal benefits to cooking, baking, and more.

It works effectively in cleaning benzene and formaldehyde from the air.

Care Method- It does not require much water. It is enough to water this plant once in two to three weeks. In winters, the plant should be watered even less.
