The rise in sales of liquor has zoomed in the state’s bordering Andhra Pradesh. The shops in Nalgonda, Khammam and Mahabubnagar districts have registered a 50% rise in the sales compared to the period before lockdown was announced.

There is a huge difference in the price rate of liquor in Telangana so the tipplers residing in Krishna, Guntoor and Kurnool districts of Andhra Pradesh are now buying liquors from shops in the bordering district of Telangana.

Andhra Pradesh CM YS Jaganmohan Reddy increased the price of liquor by 75% to implement total prohibion in AP in a phased manner , while Telangana CM K Chandrasekhar Rao had increased the prices of liquor by 16%.

The demand for beer increases in summer and at this time so many people from AP are crossing the border to buy beer and liquor in Telangana as the prices here are much less compared to Andhra Pradesh.

Meanwhile, liquor shop owners in the state have been urging the state government to reduce the license fee for the lockdown period as the shops were shut.

“If it continues this way, we may have to close down the shops,” said a worried liquor shop owner.
