Itanagar, April 5 (IANS) Indian Army soldiers along with a police representative found the wreckage of a World War II US Air Force aircraft in Arunachal Pradesh, an official release said on Friday.

A 12-member Indian Army patrolling team along with a police representative recovered the wreckage in Roing district on March 30, it said.

“The discovery of the vintage aircraft and other warlike stores will definitely lead to revelation of some historical inputs,” it added.

The aircraft debris was covered by a thick undergrowth and was buried under five feet of snow.

On the information given by local trekkers of Lower Dibang district, an Army team was sent to locate the wreckage in a remote location, 30 kilometres from Roing in northeast Arunachal Pradesh.

The team moved cross country for 30 kilometres in thick jungles and snow covered areas for eight days to trace the wreckage.

In 2018, India’s Culture Ministry built a museum at Nampong in Changlang district bordering Myanmar at a cost of Rs 2.25 crore to commemorate those who laid down their lives in World War II.

The museum is located adjacent to the historic 1,726-km long Stilwell Road which was a vital lifeline for the Allied Forces during World War II.
