Arnab Goswami to replace Pratap Bhanu at Nehru Memorial Museum

The Narendra Modi government appoints journalist Arnab Goswami to the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library Society that takes decision-related to the memorial, as a replacement to the members who were critical of Centre’s decision to set up a museum for all Prime Ministers in the Teen Murti Bhavan in Delhi.

Arnab Goswami has been appointed along with former Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar, Bharatiya Janata Party MP and President of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations Vinay Sahasrabuddhe and chairman of the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts Ram Bahadur Rai as a replacement to the three members of Nehru Memorial Museum and Library Society, economist Nitin Desai, professor Udayan Mishra and former bureaucrat BP Singh.

Earlier, BP Singh had questioned the government about the need for a museum and raised the complaint that states will now want similar museums to honour Chief Ministers.

Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had also questioned the Centre’s decision and had written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi asking for the Teen Murti Bhavan to be left undisturbed.

The Union Ministry of Culture issued a notification on October 29 that said it had accepted academic Pratap Bhanu Mehta’s resignation. The notification also said that the economist Nitin Desai, professor Udayan Mishra and former bureaucrat BP Singh will no longer continue with the responsibilities of society.
