An incident of sexual assault has surfaced in Assam, a five-year-old girl infant got brutally raped by a 28-year-old man in Dariabasti area of Assam’s Hojai district on Wednesday. The accused was a neighbour to the victim and as of now is in Assam police custody. During interrogation, he confessed his crime. The accused was identified as Bikram Harijan.
An India Today report states, a case has been lodged against the 28-year-old accused under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012 at the Hojai police station.
The girl went missing from her home on February 26.
Her body was recovered from a nearby jungle area by her father. He then informed the police.
After getting the information, the police launched an investigation and arrested the accused.
He told police that he took her to the jungle and sexually assaulted the minor. The victim reportedly died on the spot, and her blood-stained body was found in the jungle area at Dariyabasti.
As per information, the child was missing since February 26.
Speaking to media persons, Jangmir Rongpharpi, Assistant Commissioner, said, “The child was missing since yesterday. After the preliminary investigation, it is clear that the child was brutally raped and murdered.”
