After the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) denied ticket to its founder president Prafulla Kumar Mahanta for Barhampur seat, the former Assam chief minister got in touch with Congress to contest the forthcoming assembly elections.
Talking to media persons, Assam Prdesh Congress Comiitee (APCC) president Ripun Bora said, “He (Mahanta) contacted us. But I don’t want to say anything more about that right now.”
Mahanta has been winning the Barhampur constituency since 1991.
According to reports, AGP has given away the seat to BJP. Former union minister Rajen Gohain and Jitu Goswami are strong contenders for the BJP ticket in Barhampur.
