Assam: Banned insurgent group NDFB (S) head to Delhi

Guwahati: Banned insurgent group members belonging to National Democratic Front of Bodoland Saoraigwra (NDFB-S) have surfaced out on Indian land through the Myanmar border, reportedly, for peace talks with the Union Government.

The Indian Army escorted all of the 50 leaders and cadres belonging to NDFB-S on Saturday from Myanmar border to an undisclosed Army base amidst all the protests going on against the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA).

News Reports suggest that the Chief of NDFB-S, B Saoraigwra, and his family members, along with his security personnel, entered India through Tamu in Manipur while General Secretary B Ferrenga, the council members and other cadres crossed the Longwa international border in Nagaland and then entered India.

The monitoring is done by the Home Ministry directly and the leaders would be directly taken to Delhi for the peace talks. The development is being seen as a major step towards promoting peace in the Bodoland Territorial Area Districts (BTAD) of Assam.

The Myanmar Army has been also active in carrying out operations against India’s militant outfits such as the United Liberation Front of Assam-Independent (ULFA-I), National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Khaplang (NSCN-K), NDFB-S and Kamtapur Liberation Organisation (KLO).

These operations, as claimed by ULFA-I Chief Paresh Baruah, were being carried out by Myanmar in the directives of the Indian government.
