The Assam budget 2020-21 has been leaked online, Media reports suggest that a copy of Budget 2020-21 was uploaded to the Assam Financial Department website. Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is scheduled to present Assam annual budget at the assembly house at 2 pm on the evening of Friday.

“Assam Parliamentary Affairs Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary, however, has denied such allegations and said the budget needs to be cleared by the Cabinet before it is presented before the Assembly. I don’t know what budget you are talking about. The budget will be presented in the evening at 2 pm on Friday.” He says while talking to the media.

Assam Budget 2020-21: Key points from minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s budget speech

  • Sports-tournaments to be held at Panchayat, Block, District and State levels, in Olympic disciplines.
  • Hima Das will be offered the position of Deputy Superintendent of Police.
  • New legislation to make teaching of Assamese as a compulsory subject in all English & other medium schools up to Class X.
  • No new tax proposals in the budget speech.
  • Textbook assistance of Rs 1500 and Rs 2000 for student at graduate and post graduate levels.
  • Rs 1000 to 1 lakh students for textbooks.

Highlights of the Assam Budget 2020-21 purportedly mentioned in the Budget:

  • Rs 1,05,246.23 crore earmarked for Assam Budget 2020-21
  • Revenue earning expected to be at Rs 91,930.80 cr
  • Under ‘A’ category, subsidy will be given to 38 lakh domestic power consumers
  • Rs 15 crore granted in Budget for this purpose
  • 30 unit of free power
  • Subsidy of Rs 1.10 upto 120 units
  • Governmen share claim in NRL is expected to be 13.65 per cent
  • For the first time more than Rs one lakh crore earmarked in Budget
  • Proposal to provide employement to 55,000 unemployed youth
  • Budget expected to have several incentives for women, children and divyangs
  • Rs 872 crore sanctioned for free rice for the year 2020-21
  • Rs 220 crore under Chah Bagicha Dhan Puraskar scheme
  • 102 schools will be opened in tea garden areas
  • Hike of Rs 40,000 under Arundhati Swarna Yojana
  • Proposal to institute Aideo Handique women award

Meanwhile, AIUDF MLA Aminul Islam says, How budget as of now has lost its sanctity as it is leaked online before any discussion taking place in the Assembly House.
