Guwahati: Veer Lachit Sena leader Shrinkhal Chaliha said that a new regional party will be formed in Assam in order to overthrow the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government by 2021. He issued this statement after the Gauhati High Court in the bail hearing on Thursday in CID case No 30 of 2019 registered under various offences including waging war against the State etc, has granted him bail.
Shrinkhal Chaliha said, “This government does not care about the democratic protests happening across the country. Due to this very attitude, a new regional party must be formed by 2021 to overthrow the BJP government. Already they have lost their place in upper and lower Assam districts. Their existence is confined only to the Barak valley.”
Shrinkhal Chaliha was the one who got arrested for protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA). He said, “I was arrested with fake charges of waging war against the Government. I was arrested just for protesting against the contentious CAA. But the people of Assam will continue to fight for our rights.”
Shrinkhal Chaliha was arrested by police from Dibrugarh on December 23 and is being currently kept at the Barpeta jail in Assam. However, he was granted bail by the Gauhati High Court on Friday. Chaliha was arrested under the following case no. 30/19. Later, he was charged with case nos. 120B, 121, 121A, 122, 123, 147, 148, 150, 153, 153A, 326, 333, and 353.
