On Friday morning, April 24, 2020, about 350 Assam students studying in Kota, Rajasthan have started their journey home. They are expected to arrive at the Assam-West Bengal border on Sunday morning.

Around 17 sleeper buses hired from private operators to take the students back to their hometown amid coronavirus lockdown, as per the official.

State health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “Immediately on their arrival each of them will be sent to quarantine facilities. We will decide whether they will be quarantined at Srirampur (at Assam’s entry point) or at Sarusajai. They are already quarantined in Kota but when they are travelling now, they will be passing through several states. They will be tested after five days in quarantine here and will be released on advise of doctors.”

A local from Assam has also posted a picture on Facebook showing students coming back to their homes.

Eight Assam police officers were escorted to Kota earlier and now escorted 351 students and arranged their return journey more than 1900 kilometers by themselves.
