Baal Aadhaar Card: Aadhaar, a 12- digit unique identity card, can be obtained voluntarily by the Indian citizens, non – residents passport holders of India and resident foreign nationals who have spent 182 days in 12 months immediately preceding the date of application for enrollment.

In simple words, Aadhaar is an individual’s identification ( irrespective of age and gender ) and proof of address for Indian residents.

A lot of people are not aware of the two types of Aadhaar cards available.

The one is for adults, that comes printed on a white piece of paper.

Whereas, the other one is in the colour blue, dedicated to the children, also called the Baal Aadhaar.

Baal Aadhar can also be applied for a new born baby.

This blue – coloured Aadhaar card was introduced by UIDAI in the year 2018 for the children of below 5 years of age.

Other than the colour of the cards, the fact that adults have to register their biometric data  ( such as their fingerprint or Iris Scan ) for the enrollment and for the blue card, just the child’s birth certificate and one of the parent’s Aadhaar card number is required, distinguishes either of them even better.

It’s quite simple getting the children enrolled for the application process.

Here are the steps for getting Baal Aadhaar Card:

  • Enrollment form has to be filled by visiting the enrollment centre.
  • One of the child’s parents Aadhaar Card number, mobile number and the chils’s birth certificate is required.
  • A photograph of the child will be clicked.
  • Child’s Aadhaar card number will be linked to the parent’s.
  • Once confirmed, acknowledgment slip is to be collected.

Also, once the child crosses the age of 5, parents can book an appointment for updating the biometric data for their child’s Aadhaar Card by visiting UIDAI’s official website.
