BCCI Hunt for Long-Term Coach

BCCI Hunt for Long-Term Coach: Rahul Dravid’s deal is up in June 2024. The BCCI will then look for a new head coach. After the 50-over World Cup in November of last year, the former Indian captain and his team were given more time.

Jay Shah, the secretary of the BCCI, told PTI that Dravid would have to reapply if he wanted to stay on as head for another three years.

We will be calling for applications in the next few days. Rahul Dravid’s tenure is coming to an end. He must reapply. We are looking for a long-term coach, for three years,” Shah added.

A foreign coach can also be considered based on the recommendation of the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), removing the precedent of having different coaches for different formats.

There is no precedent of different coaches for different formats in Indian cricket. Moreover, there are several players who are all-rounders, such as Rishabh Pant, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.

“Ultimately, this is the Cricket Advisory Committee’s call. I have to implement what they decide. If the CAC selects a foreign coach, I can’t interfere,” he further said.

According to the BCCI secretary, the vacant post of a national selector will be filled soon.

“A few interviews for the selector’s post have already happened. We will announce it soon,” he said.

Shah remained non-committal about running for the International Cricket Council chairmanship when Greg Barclay ends his term later this year.

He asked, “Let me be here in BCCI. Let there be speculation. But let me be here. Am I not doing a good job?”
