A couple in their 80s lost their lives when their car collided with a vehicle carrying Sri Vishwesha Teertha of Pejewar Mutt of Udupi on the Chintamani highway near Bengaluru. The accident occurred around 7.45 am.

While four others sustained injuries in the accident.

In the accident, Ramakrishnaiah, aged 85, wife Suvarna Sulochana, aged 80 were killed. While their daughter-in-law, Nalini Kumari(55) got injured along with three others.

Reportedly, the family had started from Bettalahalli to reach Hoskote for attending a wedding. The 85-year-old had borrowed his car as the driver wasn’t available. Sulochana lost her life on the spot, while Ramakrishnaiah, her husband, succumbed to his injuries at a hospital.

There were three entities involved in the accident, Ramakrishnaiah’s car, seer’s convoy and a motorbike. The bike was moving ahead of the car with the convey moving in the other direction. Nagendra, Ramakrishnan’s driver, tried to overtake the motorbike but was crashed into the patrol vehicle.

A police sub-inspector, Shambaiah, Nataraj, the motorcyclist sustained injuries and were taken to the hospital.

The vehicle has been towed off the road and a case for negligent driving has been registered against Nagendra on Shambaiah’s complaint.
