Bengaluru: Laboratory blast at Indian Institute of Science, scientist dies

In India’s prestigious college, Indian Institute of Science Bengaluru, a 30-year old researcher died when an explosion happened in a lab facility. Three others sustained injuries.

Reportedly, the accident happened at 2.20 PM when a cylinder exploded in the Aerospace Department’s Laboratory for Hypersonic and Shockwave. Manoj Kumar who died along with the three injured belonged to Superwave Technologies, a start-up incubated at the college.

An official said, “Everything was flung in the laboratory, but there is no sign of gas or fire. But the force released was enough to kill a person on the spot”.

The startup is managed by professors of the Department of Aerospace Engineering. Police are investigating the case.
