Bhai Dooj is celebrated on the second lunar day of the Shukla Paksha of the Kartika month. It is an occasion that define the eternal love between siblings (brother and sister).
This is a very traditionally celebration ceremony where sisters ensure to perform aarti of their brothers and apply red tika on their forehead. On this occasion of Bhai Dooj, the tika symbolizes the sisters love. Hence, sisters pray to God for the well being and longevity of their brothers to resist all evils.
The ceremony is also about the brother’s responsibility to protect his sister along with the blessings of the sister.
This year bhai dooj 2019 will be celebrated on October 29, Tuesday.
Bhai Dooj Vidhi
The sister puts a tilak on his brother’s forehead and offers him sweets. In return, the brothers gave gifts to the sisters. In many places, the flowers of kaddu (pumpkin), betel leaves, betel nuts and coins are also placed in the hands of the brothers behind the tilak.
