Bihar: Aurangabad Court Sentences 16 to Life Imprisonment for Witchcraft-Related Murder

A court in Aurangabad district, Bihar, has handed down life imprisonment sentences to 16 individuals, including two women, for their involvement in the murder of Jagdish Ram, suspected of practising witchcraft. The verdict was delivered by Additional District and Sessions Judge-II, Dhananjay Mishra, on Friday.

In addition to the life sentences, the court imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on each convict. The convicted individuals, who all belong to Ibrahimpur village, include Suresh Ram, Ravindra Ram, Surendra Ram, among others.

According to Additional Public Prosecutor Rajaram Choudhary, Jagdish Ram was brutally attacked with both sharp and blunt objects on August 13, 2020. The case was registered following a statement by the deceased’s wife, who had listed all 16 accused in her complaint.
