Amidst the increasing number of coronavirus cases in Bihar, the state government on Tuesday has imposed a complete lockdown from July 16 to July 31. The decision was taken during a high-level meeting.

The coronavirus cases in Bihar is speeding up. With 1,320 fresh positive cases of COVID-19, the state’s tally of the total number of infections reached 20,173 on Wednesday. According to the Bihar Health Department, 13,019 patients have been recovered so far. With this, the recovery rate touched 69.06%. The number of active cases in the state stands at 5,659.

The capital city, Patna has reported the maximum number of patients at 242, followed by Bhagalpur at 125, West Champaran at 93, Siwan at 90, Khagaria at 80, Begusarai at 75, Muzaffarpur at 59, and Nawada at 52.

20 staff members at Governor’s house tests positive:

Around 20 staff members at the Bihar Governor’s house tested positive for the deadly coronavirus. The Raj Bhavan in Patna is house to Phagu Chauhan, the 29th Governor of Bihar.

BJP Chief Sanjay Jaiswal tests positive:

On Wednesday, July 15, Bihar BJP President Sanjay Jaiswal has been tested positive for COVID-19. Along with him, his wife and mother are also infected by the novel coronavirus. According to the reports, Jaiswal had a cold cough and mild fever. Last week, he attended the regional meeting of the party. After his health deteriorated, his samples were tested and his reports were positive for the infection. The other leaders who came in contact with Sanjay Jaiswal will go through the coronavirus testing.

On July 14, BJP headquarters of state in Patna was badly hit by COVID-19 after as many as 75 leaders and office staff members reportedly tested coronavirus positive. Top leaders who were found infected include state vice-presidents Rajesh Verma and Radha Mohan Sharma, state general secretary Devesh Kumar, and state general secretary (organization) Nagendra.

Complete lockdown imposed from July 16 to July 31:

Congress leader Lallan Kumar blames Nitish-led government:

The Congress on Wednesday blamed the Nitish-led government for the spread of the infection in the state. Senior Congress leader and former Youth Congress President Lallan Kumar alleged on Wednesday that Nitish Kumar holds meetings apparently to fight COVID-19, however, he is eyeing the upcoming Assembly polls.

Kumar alleged that the health system in Bihar was the worst among all the states in the country, adding that the medicine for common diseases was rarely available at the health centers in the state.

Meanwhile, The number of novel coronavirus cases in India rose to 9.3 lakh on Wednesday after 29,429 new infections were reported from across the country a day before. Over 24,300 people have succumbed to the disease, while nearly 60,000 have recovered. Karnataka has overtaken Gujarat to become the third worst-hit state in the country after Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu.
