Bihar Election Results 2020: The counting of votes is underway in Bihar to decide the fate of political bigwigs and the early Bihar Election Results showed that Nitish Kumar-led Janata Dal (United) lack behind. A senior JD(U) leader KC Tyagi said his party is suffering losses due to the impact of COVID-19.

Nothing has happened in the last one year that the brand Nitish Kumar or brand JD(U) has come down. Sirf aur sirf, hum COVID ke impact se haar gaye,” Tyagi said.

Nitish’s JD(U) will contest 122 seats and the BJP 121, whereas the other partners of the NDA alliance—the Jitan Ram Manjhi-led HAM and Mukesh Sahni’s VIP—will be accommodated in JD(U) and BJP’s quota of seats.

Among the Mahagathbandhan partners, the RJD will contest 144 seats while the Congress and the Left (CPI-ML, CPI, CPM) will fight on 70 and 29 seats, respectively. Asaduddin Owaisi’s The AIMIM is contesting this time in alliance the Samajwadi Janata Dal (Democratic), Rashtriya Lok Samata Party and BSP

The current government in Bihar is a coalition between the JD(U) and BJP with Nitish Kumar as chief minister and Sushil Kumar Modi as the deputy chief minister. It remains to be seen if Nitish Kumar can retain the power or lose the throne to Mahagathbandhan (grand alliance), helmed by RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav.

The 2020 Bihar election is taking place at a time when the country is undergoing the coronavirus pandemic. Polling, campaigning and all other processes of an election were held according to the Covid-19 guidelines laid down by the Election Commission of India.
