Bihar: Flood victims attack police in Muzaffarpur, blocks NH 28

According to the Bihar government, as many as 69,03,640 people have been affected while 21 have died due to the floods in Bihar.

The flood victims in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur attacked the police officials of the Sarka police station. The victims blocked National Highway 28, claiming they were not being provided relief material after the recent floods inundated their villages, as per reports.

“We were informed that nearby flood victims had blocked the national highway around the Sarka Police station yesterday. On reaching the spot, the locals attacked the police personnel with lathis and stones were pelted at them,” Jayant Kant, Muzaffarpur Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) said while speaking to the media.

“Three police personnel, including the station house officer, were injured and 12 have been arrested so far. Further investigation is underway to address the situation”, he further added.

The flood situation in Bihar from overflowing rivers originating in Nepal entered in more areas of the 16 flooded districts of Bihar. According to reports, the death toll has increased to 21 as two more people have died in Siwan in the last 24 hours.

According to the Bihar government, as many as 69,03,640 people have been affected while 21 have died due to the floods in Bihar. So far, 33 teams of the National Disaster Response Force(NDRF) and SDRF have been deployed.

Among the flood-hit residents, more than 4 lakh people have been evacuated from badly inundated areas. Of them, 12,239 were taking shelter at eight relief camps. Also, more than 10 lakh people were being fed at 1,402 community kitchens.

Meanwhile, People residing in relief camps after being evacuated will now be served cups of ‘kaadha’ made with herbal ingredients in a bid to increase their immunity and make them less vulnerable to contracting coronavirus.

As per an official bulletin, issued by the State Disaster Management Department on Thursday, more than 10.3 lakh, (out of over 69 lakh flood-affected victims) are being served food in 1,402 community kitchens and eight mega relief centers set up across Bihar.
