Bihar: Government engineer set ablaze contractor who refused to pay him bribe

In a shocking incident, a contractor was hacked and burnt to death by a chief engineer of Bihar’s water resources department Murlidhar Singh at his Gandak Colony residence under Town police station in Gopalganj district on Thursday.

The injured was rushed to a Gorakhpur hospital in Uttar Pradesh for treatment where he later succumbed to burn injuries.

According to the reports, demanded a bribe of Rs 15 lakh from Rama Shankar Singh to release the payment of Rs 60 lakh due to him from the water resources department. They said Rama Shankar Singh was given the contract to build the official residence of the chief engineer and other houses at a cost of Rs 2.20 crore.

A probe has been ordered into the incident and raids are on to nab the engineer in-chief. Meanwhile, the room of the engineer’s house has been sealed. A forensic team is making efforts to collect evidences from the spot. A container full of petrol was recovered from the room.
