Bihar: Man beaten to death by mob on suspicion of theft

In yet another case where mob tried to take the law in their hands in rage of instant justice, a 35-year-old man was beaten to death by mob in suspicion of theft on Tuesday after he was allegedly caught stealing from a house in Bihar’s Vaishali.  The police have recovered a sharp instrument from the spot where he was killed.

According to a leading daily, the incident occurred in Akhtiarpur Patedha village under the Sarai police station area after the man, in his 30s, was spotted with an iron-cutter near the house of one Sant Lal Paswan around 1 AM.

As quoted in the reports, police present at the crime spot said, “The owner of the house had attacked him and then he was caught by other villagers. By the time we reached the spot, he was dead. The body, which was taken into the custody, has been sent for the post mortem report. We have also registered a case against unidentified persons in connection with his murder.”

Last month, a man named Tabrez Ansari was attacked by a mob in Kharsawan district of Jharkhand on the suspicion of theft.  He was beaten up mercilessly for hours before being handed over to the police. He succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital on 22 June.

Tabrez’s family has alleged that the attack was communal and that he was made to chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’ and ‘Jai Hanuman’.
