Bihar: Man in quarantine centre eats 40 'rotis' and 10 plates of rice in one day

Migrant workers from different states continue to return to their home towns. To reduce the spread of the coronavirus, they are kept at quarantine centres for 14 days. While some quarantine centres are organising Yoga sessions and other activities to stay fit, at Buxar quarantine centre in Bihar, a young man has stunned everyone by eating  40 rotis and 10 plates of boiled rice.

23-year-old Anoop Ojha, a resident of  Kharha Tand Panchayat, is currently quarantined at a quarantine centre set up at Manjwari village. The diet of Ojha has startled everyone and has become a focus of attention for local people and district administration officials.

A few days back, the cook prepared ‘littis’(Bihari cuisine) for the migrant workers at the centre. Anoop surprised everyone by eating 83 littis alone.

Later, officials made inquiries about the increment in the food consumption at the centre. They initially, refused to believe that Anoop is the reason behind the food crisis.

To speculate about the crisis, Ajay Kumar Singh, Block Development Officer (BDO), Simri, visited the quarantine centre during lunch hour. He was surprised to see a man, eating food for over 10 people.

“Anoop eats 40 rotis during breakfast. The cook has refused to make 40 rotis daily for him. Now rice is being served during both breakfast and lunch for him”, BDO said.

According to the reports, 87 migrants are quarantined at the centre in Manjwari village. Anoop Ojha was brought to this quarantine center about 10 days ago. He had gone to Rajasthan in search of work before the lockdown.  His patience broke down when the fourth phase of the nationwide coronavirus lockdown started and he returned to Bihar via Shramik Special Train. Ojha has completed his quarantine period and was sent home on Thursday.

Shramik trains are running across the country to help migrants reach their home states. As migrant workers are returning to Bihar from other states on Shramik Special trains, the coronavirus cases are gradually spiking up in the states. With 54 new coronavirus cases, the total number COVID-19 cases in Bihar has surged to 3090, 918 people have been recovered and the death toll stands at 15 so far. All 38 districts of the state are infected by the virus.
