Bihar: Man lynched in Bhagalpur over rumours of child-lifting; four arrested

The rumour of child lifting infuriated the villagers, who attacked and assaulted Md Afsaar Ansari, leading to his death.

The terrifying incidents of mob lynching across several states have India is continuously on rise from past an year. The recent incident has been reported from Bhagalpur area of Bihar where a 37-year-old man was brutally beaten and lynched by a group of villagers over suspicion of child lifting.

As per the reports, deceased identified as Md Afsaar Ansari, belonged to neighbouring Miranchak under Lodipur police station area. He was returning home after visiting his in-laws at Chakfatma.

He was talking to a child while taking rest in the orchard of Shivdani Rai when Kundan Yadav of Chakfatma and Mohan Rai, Pappu Rai and Kartik Rai of Manmodhachak killed attacked him by spreading a rumour that he was a child-lifter.

As quoted in some reports, the rumour infuriated the villagers, who attacked and assaulted him, leading to his death.

However, some told police that Afsaar worked as a labourer and was killed out of personal enmity with some people in the two villages.

As of now, the police has registered a case in the matter and has arrested four people. Further investigation in the case is underway.
