Bihar Minister claims, "Lord Shiva, Hanuman belonged to backward caste"

A Bihar minister left people perplexed when he claimed that Lord Shiva and Lord Hanuman belonged to a socially backward caste Bind.

The bizarre claims were made by Bihar’s Mines and Geology Minister Brij Kishor Bind on Tuesday at a function organized to felicitate the newly-appointed governor Phagu Chauhan.

Citing Hindi texts to substantiate his claims, Brij Kishor said that if Lord Krishna could be a Gwala, Lord Ram could be a Kshatriya, why can’t Lord Shiva be a Bind.

“Our history is very old. Do you know that Lord Shankar was from Bind caste,” Bind claimed at an event here. “It is mentioned in Shiva Puran that Lord Shiva was from Bind caste. When Lord Krishna can be a ‘Gwala’ (a shepherd), Lord Ram can be a Kshatriya, then, why can’t Lord Shiva be a ‘Bind’,” he questioned.

The event organised by Nonia-Bind-Beldar Mahasangh was also attended by senior BJP leaders including Bihar governor Fagu Chauhan, Health Minister Mangal Pandey and Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi.
