The recent development in the sedition case suggest that Bihar police on Wednesday ordered closure of the case lodged against 50 acclaimed artists and intellectuals who wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier this year seeking his intervention in the rising incidence of mob lynching.

Instead, the police will file a prosecution against complainant Sudhir Kumar Ojha, a Muzaffarpur-based advocate, for filing a false case.

The petitioner is known for filing PIL pleas against celebrities and dignitaries. He was also an advocate for Brajesh Thakur, prime accused in the Muzaffarpur shelter home sexual abuse case.

As reported by a leading channel, ADG Headquarter Jitendra Kumar said the complainant was neither unable to produce supporting documents or evidence nor even the alleged letter written by the 49 persons, which may support his claim of commission of any offence.

The complaint was lodged in Muzaffarpur against renowned personalities, including filmmakers Shyam Benegal, Mani Ratnam and Anurag Kashyap besides historian Ramachandra Guha, who were signatories to an open letter seeking PM Modi’s intervention on the rising incidence of mob lynching.
