The seat-sharing formula in the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) for Bihar assembly elections 2020 has almost been finalised. According to a report in Hindustan, sources point out that BJP and JD(U) will contest elections in equal seats and the remaining seats would be shared between Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) and Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM).

According to a leader of seat-sharing, after the initial round of discussion, the BJP cadre suggested that both JDU and BJP should contest the seats between 105 and 110 and divide the remaining seat among the allies. The JD (U) cadre is insisting that the party should have one seat but more seats than the BJP.

Meanwhile, BJP has announced that party workers will also campaign for all the allies, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi and CM Nitish Kumar will have two faces in the election.  According to the suggestion of the party cadre, since there is an anti-incumbency wave against Jd(U) this time, the BJP should contest at least an equal number of seats if they do not get more seats.

A day after RJD had a showdown with Congress over the seat-sharing formula for the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections 2020, the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) has unilaterally released a list of 30 assembly seats it will contest on.

According to the Left Party, the RJD had offered it 20 seats. The CPI-ML did not dispute the number of seats but wanted more prominent assembly segments.

The seats which CPI-ML has claimed as its own are:

  • Tarari
  • Agian
  • Jagdishpur
  • Sandesh
  • Ara
  • Darauli
  • Jiradei
  • Raghunathpur
  • Balrampur
  • Paliganj
  • Drafthi
  • Phulwarisharif
  • Karakat
  • Obra
  • Arwal
  • Ghoshi
  • Sikta
  • Bhore
  • Kurtha
  • Jehanabad
  • Hilsa
  • Islampur
  • Hayaghat
  • Warisnagar
  • Orai
  • Gaighat
  • Benipatti
  • Sherghati
  • Dumraon
  • Chainpur

While the LJP has been threatening to put up contestants against the JD(U), if its demand for a respectable seat allocation is not met, BJP leaders said the differences will be sorted out at the meetings. The LJP leadership also held meetings ahead of the formal talks with the BJP.

In the 2015 assembly polls, JD-U, RJD, and Congress had fought the elections together under the Mahagathbandhan banner. On the other hand, the BJP-led NDA had fought the elections with Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) and other allies.

RJD with 80 seats had emerged as the single largest party in the elections, followed by JD-U (71), and BJP (53). However, BJP got the largest vote share (24.42%), followed by RJD with 18.35 percent and JD-U (16.83%).
