'Resignation is not enough', says Tejashwi Yadav after Bihar Education Minister Mewalal resigns

Rashtriya Janta Dal’s leader Tejashwi Yadav has assured action over the alleged clashes between the police and the Durga worshipper in Bihar’s Munger on Monday. As many as four devotees were killed and several people were injured in firing after clashes during the immersion of Goddess Durga.

Condemning Munger firing, Yadav wrote, “Today, along with the allies of the grand alliance, paid tribute to the martyred devotees silently by the dictatorship of the NDA government. Who told the police to allow CM to be brutally shot at innocents by becoming General Dyer? Strict punishment on the culprits will be done as soon as the government is formed on 10 November.”

Given the ongoing Bihar Assembly Elections 2020, the Rashtriya Janta Dal (RJD) blamed Nitish Kumar for the police repression in the state. Taking it to Twitter, RJD from the official handle wrote, “Due to the bureaucracy and police repression Nitish government has increased so much today. Policemen shot at unprovoked youths! 4 youths lost their lives but no hearing! After all, how long will Bihar bear such arrogance? Remove Nitish government Make Tejashwi Bihar!”

The brutality of Monday’s police lathi-charge on a truck of devotees headed for immersion on Durga Puja has been compared with that of General Dyer’s during Amritsar’s Jallianwala Bagh massacre in 1919 on the festival of Baisakhi.

The Lok Janshakta Party chief, who had earlier compared the incumbent Nitish Kumar-led government’s rule to that of the Taliban, also made a fresh attack this morning.

“Who is responsible for the firing and lathi-charge incident in Munger? Chief Minister is now playing the role of General Dyer, who ordered the Jallianwalah massacre. I am sure CM is responsible for the incident, an investigation should be done,” Paswan said, demanding the transfer of Superintendent of Police Lipi Singh.

The superintendent of police (SP) of Munger, Bihar Lipi Singh has been making headlines for her role in the shooting that occurred at a Durga puja immersion. Singh is getting slammed on social media for opening lathi charge and fire upon Hindu devotees that resulted in the death of an 18-year-old boy and left several people got injured.

However, according to Munger police, the fire was opened by someone from the crowd and not by them. The incident took place on Monday, before the first polling phase in Munger.

Meanwhile, tearing into RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday termed the opposition’s chief ministerial face as the “Jungle raj ka Yuvraj (prince of jungle raj)”. The PM added that Bihar has learnt to aspire under Nitish Kumar’s leadership, underlining that the state has moved away from those who want to make it “Bimaru” again.
