A team of officials from the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Monday is scheduled to visit Bihar to overview the latest preparation and updates on the Bihar Assembly elections. The team will comprise Deputy Election Commissioner Sudeep Jain and Deputy Election Commissioner Chandrabhushan Kumar.

“The team will reach Patna before lunch to see the latest developments as far as the preparation for Bihar assembly election is concerned,” an official from the commission told ANI.

The election commission team along with the district magistrates and superintendents of police will first review Muzaffarpur, Sitamarhi, Shivhar, West Champaran, East Champaran, Vaishali, Darbhanga, Madhubani, Samastipur, Saharsa, Supaul, and Madhepura districts from 9:30 AM to 1 PM on Monday. The commission team will return to Patna on Monday itself. The team will conduct an election review with district magistrates and superintendents of police of Patna, Nalanda, Bhojpur, Buxar, Saran, Siwan, and Gopalganj districts in Patna from 2:30 PM to 5 PM.

On September 15,  the team will visit to Bhagalpur from 9:15 AM to 1:00 PM along with district magistrates and superintendents of police from Banka, Munger, Lakhisarai, Sheikhpura, Jamui, Khagaria, Begusarai, Purnia, Araria, Kishanganj, and Katihar districts and on the same day. Further, the Commission team will inspect Gaya, Jehanabad, Arwal, Aurangabad, Kaimur, and Rohtas districts from 2:45 PM to 4:30 PM.

Earlier in August, ECI had released its updated election-related guidelines in which necessary changes were made considering the coronavirus pandemic. A detailed COVID-19 related comprehensive plan will be prepared at the state level, taking local conditions into account, the guidelines had stated.

Ahead of the Bihar assembly elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday endorsed Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and heaped praises on him for ushering in sushasan (good governance). The Prime Minister also expressed confidence that the good work will continue under the leadership of the JD(U) chief.

BJP national president JP Nadda, Bihar BJP election in-charge Devendra Fadnavis, and BJP state president Sanjay Jaiswal also met CM Nitish Kumar recently.
