Bihar polls: Former MP Putul Kumari, shooter Shreyasi Singh likely to join RJD

According to the reports, Shreyasi will be granted the party membership at a function scheduled at the residence of RJD leader Rabri Devi.

National shooter Shreyasi Singh has announced her entry into politics on National Sports Day. Shreyasi is likely to join Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) on September 3. The daughter of former Union Minister Digvijay Singh and former MP Putul Kumari, Shreyasi is believed to be contesting from Banka’s Amarpur seat, Bihar.

According to the reports, Shreyasi will be granted the party membership at a function scheduled at the residence of RJD leader Rabri Devi.

Putul Kumari, mother of Shreyasi Singh was expelled from the BJP ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha polls. Putul had made a nomination as an independent candidate against JD (U) candidate Giridhari Yadav from Banka Lok Sabha constituency. After which the BJP took action and expelled him from the party for six years. Incidentally, Digvijay too had won the seat as an Independent in 2009 after being denied a ticket by the JD(U). After Digvijay Singh’s death, Kumari had won a 2010 bypoll from the seat, but lost in 2014.

Reigning Commonwealth Games champion Shreyasi Singh won the women’s Trap crown at the 63rd National Shooting Championship for shotgun events at the Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range.

Shreyasi represented Bihar and got the better of Rajeshwari Kumari of Punjab in the top final, which also had the likes of seasoned shooters Shagun Chowdhary and Seema Tomar among others.

Bihar is prepping for the state assembly elections slated for October-November this year. In the recent development, former Bihar Director General of Police (DGP) Sunil Kumar joined the ruling Janata Dal (United) on Saturday and is likely to contest the state assembly elections.

After joining JD(U), Sunil Kumar said, “I have complete faith in the policies of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. I am getting into politics and joining Nitish Kumar with the sole intention of doing social service.”
