Bihar reports new high of 1,266 COVID-19 cases, tally past 16,000-mark

With 177 new coronavirus cases, the capital city has reported the highest number of infections.

Bihar reports 1,266 new COVID-19 patients, tally past 16,000-mark

Bihar on Sunday reported 1,266 new COVID-19 cases, taking the state’s total coronavirus tally to 16,305. The number of recovered patients is 1,0991 and the death toll stands at 146, the health department said.

With 177 new coronavirus cases, the capital city has reported the highest number of infections. Siwan, being on the second position, recorded a maximum of 98 fresh COVID-19 cases, and the third-highest 78 positive cases were reported in Nalanda.

 

On Sunday, 18 out of 20 security personnel working in the Patna High Court were tested positive for the coronavirus. Earlier, a DSP posted here was also infected. The corona testing of other security personnel and employees of the court who came in contact with the infected is being conducted.

The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Patna was declared a corona dedicated hospital on Saturday. Meanwhile, another COVID-19 hospital was also taken up for testing of samples at Nalanda Medical College and Hospital (NMCH), Patna.

A day earlier, on Saturday, the state had recorded 709 fresh cases. Out of 29,8762 samples tested 15,039 were found infected. However, looking at the figure of 709 infections found in the last 24-hour, the rate of infection has increased to 7.8%.

To restrain the spread of the deadly COVID-19 in the state, 11 districts have been put under strict lockdown since Friday. These districts are Patna, Kaimur, Buxar, Nawada, Supaul, Madhepura, Khagaria, Munger, Kishanganj, Muzaffarpur, and Motihari. During the shutdown period, the government and private offices, except those involved in essential services like electricity, water, sanitation, banks, ATMs, telecommunications, and petrol pumps shall remain closed for seven days.

Meanwhile, with 28,637 fresh infections in the past 24 hours, the number of confirmed cases in India neared the 8.5 lakh-mark. Of the 8,49,553 cases, 5.3 lakh have recovered, while there are nearly 3 lakh active cases. The toll stands at 22,674. India is the third worst-hit nation, behind only the United States and Brazil.
