Bihar: Senior RJD leader Raghuvansh Prasad Singh resigns from party

Senior Rashtriya Janta Dal (RJD) leader and former Union Minister Raghuvansh Prasad Singh has resigned from the party on Thursday. Singh, who is admitted to Delhi AIIMS, has written his resignation on a general page. Addressing RJD President Lalu Prasad Yadav, he wrote, “After Jannayak Karpuri Thakur’s demise, I stood with you for 32 years, but not now. I have great affection for party leaders and activists. I am sorry.”

Letter written by Raghuvansh Prasad Singh

Singh resigned from the post of RJD national vice-president in June. The veteran leader was admitted to the All Indian Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Patna after testing positive for the novel coronavirus. He was later shifted to AIIMS, Delhi after his health deteriorated. On Wednesday, Singh was moved to Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

The 75-year-old leader opposed the party’s adamant attitude to pressurize allies on accepting Tejashwi Prasad Yadav’s name as the Chief Ministerial face in the Grand Alliance by negating demands of smaller allies for discussion on the issue.

A prominent face in the party, Singh has been offended over being sidelined in the party’s organizational set up and being denied a Rajya Sabha seat for some time, but had created a flutter on June 23, by resigning from the top party post on the party’s decision to induct his political rival Rama Singh. The induction was postponed then.
