In a shocking turn of events, a TPS college associate professor was shot dead by an unidentified criminal in Patna on Wednesday, January 29.

The deceased identified as Shivnarayan Ram (52), was on his way to the college on foot when a criminal shot him in his head near Janta flats at Postal Park under Kankarbagh police station around 11 am and escaped after killing him.

The professor taught political science at TPS College, which is located in the same area where he was killed. He was rushed to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) where doctors declared him brought dead.

The reason behind Ram’s murder could not be ascertained yet, police said.

Ram with his two younger brothers and other family members resided in his three-story private residence at East Indira Nagar in Kankarbagh area.

His nephew Praveen Kumar told a media portal that Ram did not have enmity with anyone. He was quoted as saying “We received information around 12 noon. He used to go to college and return home on foot. He didn’t have enmity with anyone. We also don’t have any property dispute in the family.”

His colleagues have denied any animosity with any student. The police said only one criminal was involved in the crime.

He said it was yet not clear why Ram was murdered. “No empty cartridge was recovered from the spot. There was one defunct CCTV camera there,” he added.
