BJP MLA Raja Singh alleges lathi charge by Telangana police; but video shows he hit himself with stone

Goshamahal BJP MLA T Raja Singh received injuries in the head when he, along with supporters, wanted to replace a statue of freedom fighter Rani Avanti Bai lodh under his Goshamahal constituency of Hyderabad.

BJP MLA and his supporters wanted to replace the old statue of Rani Avanti Bai Lodh, who was a freedom fighter and queen of Ramgarh, who waged a war against British and in the 1857 revolution.

However, while erecting the statue, the Goshamahal legislator was injured as a scuffle ensued between his supporters and the police, who pointed out that he did not have permission to install the statute.

According to BJP leader, “The statue, which was previously established at the Jumeir Bazar in 2009, was changed twice in the past because of some damages and again we wanted to replace it, but policemen used force and lathicharge us.”

MLA T Raja Singh alleged that he was attacked by ACP Goshamahal, Mariner ACP Asif Nagar Narasimha Reddy, SI Shahinayath Gunj GuruMurthy and SI Ravu Kumar resulting to injuries in his head.

However, IPS officer Anjani Kumar has released a video which shows Singh hit himself with a stone repeatedly on his head.

Speaking to TNM, Shahinayathgunj SHO Chand Basha said, “When we pointed out that he did not have permission for the same, he did not listen to us and insisted that he would put it up. Additionally, the statue was also made of plaster of paris and fibre, so besides causing congestion, it could potentially fall down due to strong winds and even result in injuries to bystanders,” he added.

While the police said that a scuffle broke out, they denied they had attacked him. A video of the incident that was released also corroborates the police version of events.

The video shows Raja Singh pick up a big stone and hit himself on the head, even as the police attempt to stop him. Following this, one of his supporters is seen touching his head, showing that he is bleeding and trying to rile up others.
