Ranchi, Nov 17 (IANS) The BJP in Jharkhand is seemingly unhappy with the state government’s decision to ban Chatth festival at public places fearing an increase in coronavirus transmission.

Going against the state government’s decision, the Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) is making all necessary arrangements at the ghats for the convenience of the devotees.

On Tuesday, Ranchi Mayor Asha Lakra and Deputy Mayor Sanjeev Vijayvargyee with other officials visited the different Chhath ghats in the state capital. The Mayor said the ghats have been cleaned and in the next 24 hours, the roads leading to the ghats will be cleaned so that the devotees do not face any problem.

The Mayor and the Deputy Mayor belong to the BJP.

The RMC team also visited the Jaggannathpur pond, Dhurwa Dam and other small ponds.

Meanwhile, the BJP MP from Ranchi, Sanjay Seth, and other BJP legislators performed ‘Jal Satyagrah’ to protest the state government’s decision.

“Election rallies took place in Jharkhand during the assembly bypoll. Buses are plying in full capacity, people are thronging the shopping malls… So why ban Chatth festival at public places,” asked state BJP President Deepak Prakash.

The Jharkhand government has issued guidelines banning Chatth festival at public places. As per the guidelines, devotes will not be allowed to publicly perform Chhath in rivers, ponds, lakes and other water bodies across the state.
