Bollywood mourns demise of singer-composer Wajid Khan of Sajid-Wajid fame

Music composer Salim Merchant, who confirmed the news of Wajid's death, said the composer was hospitalised a few days ago.

The Bollywood singer-composer Wajid Khan of Sajid-Wajid fame passed away in Mumbai at the age of 42 due to complications arising from a kidney infection.

Music composer Salim Merchant, who confirmed the news of Wajid’s death, said the composer was hospitalised a few days ago at Surana Hospital, Chembur where his condition deteriorated.

“He had multiple issues. He had a kidney issue and had a transplant a while ago. But recently he got to know about kidney infection… He was on the ventilator for the last four days, after his situation started getting worse,” Salim said.

Wajid along with brother Sajid made their debut as music directors with Salman Khan’s Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya in 1998. They went on to compose music for several Salman movies like Hello Brother, Tumko Na Bhool Paayenge, Garv, Mujhse Shaadi Karogi, Partner, God Tussi Great Ho, Wanted, Main Aurr Mrs Khanna, Veer and Dabangg (1, 2 and 3) among more.

Wajid Khan also crooned songs like Soni De Nakhre, Jalwa, Hud Hud Dabangg and Chinta Ta Ta Chita Chita.

Actor Akshay Kumar said ” Shocked and saddened to hear about the untimely demise of #WajidKhan, talented and ever-smiling…gone too soon. May God give strength to his family in this difficult time”

Amitabh Bachchan said that “Shocked at the passing of Wajid Khan .. a bright smiling talent passes away .. duas , prayers and in condolence”

Priyanka Chopra wrote on Twitter, “Terrible news. The one thing I will always remember is Wajid bhai’s laugh. Always smiling. Gone too soon. My condolences to his family and everyone grieving. Rest in peace my friend. You are in my thoughts and prayers.” Priyanka’s cousin, actor Parineeti Chopra wrote, “Wajid Bhai you were the nicest, nicest nicest man! Always smiling. Always singing. All heart. Every music session with him was memorable. You will truly be missed wajid bhai.”

Singer Mohit Chauhan said “Shocked and totally heartbroken to hear about Wajid bhai’s passing away. This was not his time to go. May Allah bless his soul and give the family strength to bear this huge loss. My heart goes out to Sajid bhai. Stay strong.”

 

Wajid along with his brother Sajid also served as a mentor on singing reality shows “Sa Re Ga Ma Pa 2012” and “Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Singing Superstar”. The composer duo also scored IPL 4 theme song, “Dhoom Dhoom Dhoom Dhadaka”, which was sung by Wajid.
