Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Thursday announced a 60-hour lockdown in the urban areas of the state in the wake of rising daily cases of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19).


India has recorded a massive surge of 126,315 Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours. Chief Ministers are likely to brief via video conferencing Modi on vaccination and measures to curb the second wave of infections. The meeting comes days after India breached 100,000 mark in daily cases and Maharashtra and Delhi imposed restrictions.

New Zealand PM Jacinda Ardern temporarily suspends entry for all travellers from India. The suspension will start from 1600 local time on April 11 and will be in place until April 28, Ardern said in a news conference. During this time the government will look at risk management measures to resume travel.
