EC notice to Mamata Banerjee over remark on central forces

The Election Commission (EC) has issued a notice to West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee for her alleged statements against central armed police forces deputed on election duty in the state.

The notice issued on Thursday night said Banerjee prima facie violated various sections of the Indian Penal Code with her remarks against the central forces.


COVID-19 vaccine dose shortage hits vaccination drive in Mumbai

Several vaccination centres across Mumbai, including a jumbo COVID-19 facility in business district BKC, suspended inoculation on Friday morning due to a shortage of doses, BMC sources said.


India has registered a massive surge of 131,893 Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours. With this, India’s tally now stands at 13,057,954, Worldometer showed this morning. Active cases are nearing the 1-million mark. India is now the 4th-worst hit country in terms of active cases.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday called for a four-day festival for coronavirus vaccination even as many states are reporting a shortage of vaccines. He added that imposing a night curfew is important to tackle the rising cases.

“The world has also accepted the night curfew,” the prime minister said. “Curfew makes people remember that they are living in the age of corona. It is good that we promote night curfew as ‘corona curfew’. This will not affect work too much.”

A panel of experts is investigating if there are any domestic cases of blood clotting, even mild ones, as a side effect of the two Covid-19 vaccines being administered in the country, financial daily Mint reported, according to news agency Reuters report.
