CCD owner VG Siddhartha found dead; body recovered from Nethravathi river in Mangaluru

In a shocking development,  Cafe Coffee Day chain owner and the son-in-law of former Karnataka CM SM Krishna, VG Siddhartha, went missing in Mangaluru on Monday evening. As per the reports, VG Siddhartha got off his car near the Netravati River off Mangaluru and has been missing ever since.

As quoted by a report in The Hindu, a senior policeman said that “He had left Bengaluru on Monday to Sakaleshpura but asked the driver to go to Mangaluru and when they reached the city, he again asked the driver to go to Ullal. At the bridge across Netravati river, at around 6.30 p.m., he asked the driver to park the vehicle, as he would have a walk on the scenic bridge, and he had to make a few calls. The driver called Siddhartha when he did not turn up even after an hour. It had also begun to rain. His phone was switched off and he was nowhere on the bridge.”

Police began search in the area after Siddhartha’s driver filed a complaint with the police on Tuesday morning raising suspicion if the person who jumped off the bridge was indeed the CCD founder.

Addind further to the suspicion of Siddhartha being missing, is the letter which he wrote his staff members after witnessing downfall in the business.

Siddhartha had a few days back written a note to his employees apologising for failing to create ‘a right profitable business model’. In the letter dated July 27, Siddhartha wrote, “I am very sorry to let down all the people who put their trust in me. I fought for a long time but today I gave up as I could not take any more pressure.”

“My intention was never to cheat or mislead anybody, I have failed as an entrepreneur. This Is my sincere submission, I hope someday you will understand, forgive and pardon me,” he added.

Meanwhile, It is to be noted that Coffee Day Enterprises Ltd. stock have gone down by 20 per cent.
