CalFresh Payment June 2024

CalFresh for Students: California’s CalFresh program, which provides food stamps, serves a large population. In current times, credit is delivered via an Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) Card, which is topped up once a month with money to purchase healthier items at certain retailers.

CalFresh is often only available to low-income individuals and households, so students may be unsure if they qualify. Is it feasible to acquire CalFresh for students? While not all students qualify for CalFresh, it is believed that two out of every five fulfill the qualifying criterion.

If eligible for students, you can get $234 per month to help pay for food. In September 2021, over 143,000 low-income students received CalFresh food assistance. This is the last month for which the state has a “complete statewide figure,” according to a representative from the Department of Social Services. Several state organizations, including the one controlling CalFresh, are actively integrating data, so a more recent statewide total is not available.

CalFresh for Students Eligibility

CalFresh is available to students who satisfy the following qualifications, according to the California state government’s website:

1. Working 20 hours per week.

2. Participating in federal or state work study programs.

3. Full-time student with a kid under the age of twelve.

4. Part-time student with a kid under the age of six.

5. Part-time student with a kid aged six to twelve for whom suitable care is not available.

6. Receiving CalWORKs.

7. Enrolled in a CalFresh employment and training program, or other state or local job training programs that USDA accepts.

8. Do not plan to register for the following normal school term.

CalFresh Payment June 2024: Who Qualifies for Benefits This Week?

What Happened Following the June 10 Deadline?

Starting June 10, 2023, new students applying to the program must fulfill the requirements for one of the permanent student exemptions. Students who are currently enrolled in the CalFresh program are not needed to do anything and will continue to receive benefits until they need to recertify.

Students who qualify for CalFresh on one of the temporary student exemptions will be ineligible for the program at their next recertification beginning July 1, 2023, unless they meet one of the permanent student exemptions. If a student satisfies the existing eligibility standards before June 10, they can apply for and receive CalFresh benefits until they are forced to recertify, which is usually after a year.

Does California have any other college student benefits programs?

Many community colleges and universities in California feature food pantries and other food assistance programs for students who require additional assistance. The University of California and California State University systems have provided support for students experiencing food and housing insecurity.
