California Guaranteed Income Program: A new program in California is designed to support residents of specific areas based on their location and income.

Individuals residing in Huron with the ZIP code 93234 or southwest Fresno with the ZIP code 93706 are eligible to apply.

The applicant must also be 18 years or older, pregnant or have a child under five, and have an annual income of 80 percent or less of the area’s median income, which in Huron is $35,103 and in Fresno is $30,615.

“The Advancing Fresno County Guaranteed Income Program offers a monthly supplement of $500 for one year to 150 households with young children (5 and under) in southwest Fresno and Huron, which addresses concentrated poverty,” according to the Fresno Economic Opportunities Commission website.

“Applications open on March 15th, 2024 and initial payments commence in summer 2024.”

What you need to do to apply for the California Guaranteed Income Program

Both online and in-person applications are available to applicants. Applications can be submitted remotely via the online application portal, while in-person applications can be submitted at the Fresno EOC’s Local Conservation Corps at 1805 E California Ave in Fresno, or at Huron’s Senior Center at 16900 5th Street.

There is no guarantee that you will be accepted into the program despite the easy access to application venues.

Newsweek reports that a lottery will be used to select participants due to high demand.

Payments will begin this summer for a period of 12 consecutive months for selected families. Specific start dates are pending further communication.

By observing recipients’ financial stability, health, happiness, and employment status, this initiative will be evaluated.

According to the Fresno EOC, the program will provide meaningful benefits to participants in these areas.
