Call of Duty Storage Fix:Call of Duty has been a storage hog for what feels like forever, especially on PS5 with 120+ gigs. That’s, like, half your SSD gone just to get screamed at by preteens in multiplayer. But there’s actually good news for once. A wild update (v01.080.000) is gonna shrink the install size on PS5 from a monstrous 126.2 GB down to just 25.3 GB. That’s basically a hundred gigs just Thanos-snapped out of existence. Suddenly, you don’t have to play Storage Tetris every time you want to try a new game.

PS4 users get a smaller win, but, 81 GB down to 62 GB is still, you know, something. That’s a couple indie games or, like, half of Baldur’s Gate 3 right there.

Call of Duty Storage Fix: How’d They Manage It?

Activision’s being all mysterious about the details, which is classic. But rumor has it, they’re messing with compression wizardry, hacking away all the junk assets nobody uses, maybe even splitting up the game so you can skip installing stuff you don’t care about (multiplayer). There’s talk that now you can dodge the 38.7 GB multiplayer chunk if you’re just in it for the campaign or zombies. About time, honestly.

Why Now?

Battlefield 6 is creeping up with a much slimmer install size (supposedly around 55–80 GB), and you know these two franchises can’t let the other one outshine them. So now, CoD’s trying to flex with a smaller footprint. Makes sense. Nobody wants to nuke half their game library just to keep up with the annual shooter grind.

People on Reddit are losing it. Some are joking Activision figured out “middle-out compression” like they’re in that one episode of Silicon Valley.

The next CoD update on PS5 is reducing the size of Black Ops 6 by over a 100GB!

Most people are just relieved, honestly. Years of having to delete your favorite games just to squeeze in a Warzone update.

Look, this isn’t just about numbers. It’s a sign that maybe, just maybe, devs are getting the hint: giant install sizes are painful. If more games let you pick and choose what you install, or just cleaned up their act, we’d all be better off. Less deleting, more playing, more weird little games you can try without clearing house. And yeah, maybe your SSD can breathe for once.
